About the Writer
Siren Hand is an Indianapolis-based, disabled Army Veteran writer who reflects on aspects of the body & spirit at war through poetry and creative nonfiction. They currently study Creative Writing and Medical Sociology at Indiana University Indianapolis, working towards the goal of practicing Poetic & Narrative Therapy in service to military & supporting communities.
Their writing has been published through Southeast Missouri State University Press, Middle West Press, The After Action Review, genesis Arts & Literary Magazine, THAT Literary Magazine/Thirteen Bridges Review, RockPaperPoem, and others. Their chapbook FLOW COSMIC STRING was released through Marian University's Print & Publishing Culture course in 2023 and includes "The Time-Traveler's Suite," four poetic movements articulating experiences with PTSD through the alienation of time and space.
Siren and their husband Adam Henze own Our Type Love, a literary arts project that creatively educates & incorporates typewriters into educational, nonprofit, and community collaborative settings.
When not engaged with these ventures, Siren is either haunting a coffee shop or cuddled up with (read: buried by) their three dogs. They now use the same tools to clean typewriters, as they did to clean their rifle in the Army.
